Rachel Axcell is taking part in the 2007/2008 Clipper Ventures Round the World Yacht Race, a mere 10months & 35,000 miles. Finishing in China at the opening of the 2008 Olympics. Each crew member has to raise their share of the funding. My name is Rachel Axcell, I was born, bred and educated in Caistor and am about to compete in the greatest challenge of my life, taking on the world by competing in the Clipper 07/08 Round the World Yacht Race. Starting and finishing in Liverpool (European Capital of Culture 2008) the race, over 35,000 miles, will take over 10 months to complete, 10 identical yachts crewed by a professional skipper and 17 amateur crew. I will be allocated to the Hull and Humber Yacht (one of the 3 from this country) representing my area, which I hope to promote. Whilst raising funds for my training, fees and expenses I aim to raise a further 10% to donate to the Ellen MacArthur Trust, which supports children suffering from Cancer, Leukaemia and other serious illnesses by introducing them to the joys of sailing on the sea. Once the race is completed I will be donating my time and skills to help continue this work, especially in our area. Caistor Town Hall. Tickets from Caistor Post Office £7 - £5 concessions, 50p discount at Post Office. In the fields and factories of Lincolnshire everybody knew Marek; he was the big-hearted hero of a thousand migrant workers, and when he was killed on an unmarked crossing that summer they mourned his passing. Then Mirka got off a bus from Poland looking for her brother and everything started to change. Julie Wilkinson’s gripping new play, inspired by real-life events, tells the extraordinary, funny, tragic story of three women thrown together miles from home, a teenage boy's first summer of love, and the single bed across which battle lines are drawn as history and hatred threaten to tear their worlds apart. On Saturdays This Bed Is Poland is a beautifully observed human drama, inspired by a wicked sense of fun, shot through with a haunting musical score, and played out on our dynamic new 'in-the-round' staging - yet another captivating evening of theatre from New Perspectives, the region's favourite rural touring company.
