In order to boost the economy of our town it is vital that we all make an effort, wherever possible, to buy goods and services locally. Clearly, we have to be sensible about this and we all want to make our money stretch as far as possible.

We often do not measure the true cost of personal transport but a useful guide is the Tax Man's limit on allowable travelling expenses which is currently 42 pence per mile. So a round trip to Grimsby will cost you a minimum of £10.08 ie: 12 miles each way. A visit to Lincoln will cost you a minimum of £25.23. Not so bad if there is more than one person in the car and you spend a lot of money but a substantial cost none the less. If you only buy one or two low cost items the overall cost can well exceed the cost of buying locally.
